Imma be posting MY own comparisons and reasons in 20 days, but for now you'd have to make do with my little introspection project. I transcribed for an entire day as part of my little
"getting-away-for-some-me-time" needs. The audio version can be found on my Multiply site's Music page. Please keep in mind that this is Chico and Delamar's Top 10 Reasons Why Ateneo or La Salle is Better. The responses came from listeners of the show the Morning Rush. If you choose to bypass all the other text, particularly the greetings, you could skip to the quotation boxes. I have my own two centavos to put in for some of the issues raised, but that's for the comments already. Have fun reading.
postscript... Oh yeah, as I will be decomissioning thelasallianedge Multiply identity on account of it being difficult to manage multiple sites when I just cross-post anyway (and this account has much more content apart from being a Premium Account), please keep in mind that BOTH Atenean and Lasallians will have access to my pages from now on. Be good to each other.
Chico: ...and of course, the big news yesterday was Ateneo winning — uh, bagging — the UAAP crown and so today... as far as the UAAP is concerned, the battle is over. Ateneo won. There's no arguing with that, but then what makes every La Salle vs Ateneo year great is that it's just a rivalry that wouldn't quit. Okay? So let's get to the root of it. So today we are doing the top 10 reasons why Ateneo or La Salle is better. And remember, we're just narrowing it down to these two schools. Usually we have a school battle royale. Even people who are not from the schools have an opinion! Even people from UP, UST, UE, FEU, whatever — they all have opinions as to who is better. And we are talking about school; we are talking about basketball; we are talking about the students; the alumni; (performance in) exams; facilities...
Delamar: ...so not just basketball. Not just the UAAP.
Chico: Not just the UAAP. Let's get to why these two schools are just — just wouldn't quit. They're after each other. They're trying to outdo each other in whatever form. It can even be like — you know when it comes to, like, school competitions like Streetdance or maybe cheerleading. Anything at all.
Delamar: The boys. The girls.
Chico: Exactly.
Delamar: Dating from...
Chico: It doesn't even just have to be ADMU vs DLSU. It can be like Ateneo High school vs La Salle High School. Ateneo Grade School vs La Salle Grade School. The whole thing.
Delamar: So let's sow discontent and division?
Chico: Yes!
Delamar: Okay!
Chico: You know the battle may be over at the UAAP but not here in the Morning Rush. So tell us why do you think — give us the reasons — why Ateneo or La Salle is better (uh-oh) than the other (uh-oh).
News at 17
Delamar: Hello and welcome to this Friday morning, the 26th of September 2008. My name is Del giving you the News at 17, the very first one today. Here it is:
Delamar: Ateneo finally ended years of disappointment with a 62-51 victory over La Salle last night as the Blue Eagles were crowned UAAP champions once more before a joyous crowd at the Araneta Coliseum. For a few moments during the game, it seemed that La Salle was ready to bounce back and force a third and deciding game that would determine this year's champions, but the Blue Eagles just wouldn't fold up relying heavily on their vaunted defense to finally win it all and complete a two-game sweep of the Finals that was expected to be a little tougher. It was Ateneo's fourth crown in the UAAP after victories back in 1987, 1988, and 2002: the last time they faced La Salle in the Finals. Actually, it was only the fourth Finals meeting between the two teams in the UAAP.
Chico: I could've sworn there were more. You know, like, how people are waiting for THE Finals where it's Ateneo vs La Salle. Always the biggest draw when it's the two schools.
Delamar: The thing off it is that one school will get to gloat about this for a year — for a YEAR!
Chico: I mean, both schools have experienced this. Ateneo has gloated before. La Salle has gloated before. They've both been champions. So, well, 'til next year or at least until the end of the show, 'cause we're not done yet with this.
Delamar: This was one of the biggest things happening yesterday. I don't know if it made any dent in the traffic situation, because it certainly felt so. But and then the rains. Of course we had the rains.
Chico: It was a one-two punch last night.
Delamar: Well, that was the News at 17, the first one but certainly not the last just yet. We've got two more in store for you here at the Morning Rush. You've got C and D right here on RX 93.1.
Chico: Monster Radio RX 93.1... Time for the Top 10 for today, and I think we will never hear the end of this.
Delamar: Diana of Radio 1 is with us — who is from Ateneo.
Chico: Yes, I know!
Delamar: What a perfect day to be training, because it's the day after. And I guess you're still on a high.
Diana: Yes, I am.
Delamar: Yes, she is after beating La Salle.
Chico: Okay. This is so funny, because so many people are getting really childish with the...
Delamar: Are they? Really?
Chico: You know some are trying to be objective and, like, "This school is better, because blah blah blah," but some just can't...
Delamar: ...get over it.
Chico: ...but we will include as many different types of arguments as possible: mature arguments, immature arguments. We'll include everything.
Delamar: We'll include it, because it's part of the whole rivalry. Actually, a Lasall- a person from La Salle, Greg, was saying, "Sabi nila, ang ulan at baha kahapon dahil sa luha ng mga lasalista."
Chico: Not only that. The others are saying it the other way around. "The sky is raining tears of joy, because Ateneo..." Everyone's interpreting natural occurences as for their school.
Chico: Here we go. Let's do the Top 10 Reasons Why Ateneo or La Salle is Better. As in everything, okay? Not just basketball. You can include basketball, but you can also include other sports.
Delamar: Yes. Any other aspect about the school is involved.
Chico: It can be the school. It can be the academics. It can be the facilities. (It can be the uniform.) It can be the alumni. It can be the uniform. Anything at all. And remember, this includes grade school, high school, AND college.
Delamar: Yeah. Let's sow discontent and division from the grade school level all the way to college. Let's do it.
Chico: ...and remember — what's that Tagalog phrase? — walang kokontra. There. Okay, 'cause you know we will all include pro-La Salle, pro-Ateneo and it's just a matter of...
Delamar: Of course, I need to say that Chico graduated from La Salle Greenhills.
Chico: Yeah. High school. It's actually very difficult for those who graduated grade school, high school and then went to another school.
Delamar: Because you don't know what you're rooting for.
Chico: Because, remember, UAAP is college.
Delamar: So are you green?
Chico: What?
Delamar: Are you green?
Chico: Oh, as opposed to blue? Oh yes. But I mean, like — I'm talking, like, UP.
Delamar: So you're...
Chico: Of course, I'm UP first and foremost.
Delamar: So you're maroo-... Hrmmm.
Chico: No, because of UAAP. Because it's a college — it's a college thing.
Delamar: Yeah. You're maroon.
Chico: Exactly.
Delamar: 'Cause some people still don't count it. EVen if they're in UP or some other school...
Chico: Oh no no. The school where you're from should be the school that you know, you support. But between Ateneo and La Salle, obviously I will be La Salle because my grade school and high school were La Salle...
Delamar: Diana! He's La Salle! Let's do this.
Chico: Okay. Remember like we said, you didn't come from either school, but you know each person outside of Ateneo and La Salle will have an opinion. And please, because there are those going, "Mas magaling pa rin ang Mapua!" We're just sticking with Ateneo and La Salle.
Delamar: There're no other schools today!
Chico: No other schools today.
Delamar: Don't rain on Ateneo and La Salle's parade, because they did make it to the Finals.
Chico: And that is the main rivalry. Okay. Let's start off at number 5. The Top 10 Reasons Why Ateneo or La Salle is Better. Let's start off at number 10 coming from No Name. No Name says:

Diana: ACET (pronounces it "asset")
Chico (confirms the pronunciation): The "asset"?
Diana: The ACET is so much harder.
Chico: So you took both?
Diana: I took both.
Chico: Okay... and the other one — how do you say it then? — D-L-S-tet?
Delamar: Yeah, I guess the entrance exams.
Chico: The entrance exams. And number 9 coming from... okay, this is the one that gets a bit immature. From No Name...
Delamar: I mean...
Chico: Yeah?
Delamar: I was just gonna say that you and I can't say anything about the entrance exams, because we were both very foolish not to have taken any entrance exams except the UPCAT.
Chico: Yeah.
Delamar: We do not recommend that to any fourth year student. Don't do that.
Chico: For us, it was just one...
Delamar: ...one school and had we not passed it, we would be in trouble.
Chico: We would be OSY for one year.
Delamar: Out of school youth.
Chico: Yeah. And number 9 coming from No Name:

Chico: But of course, the other side disagrees. Blue Birdie says, "Ateneo kasi mas guwapo si Chris Tiu."
Delamar: Oh okay.
Chico: And number 8 coming from — let me see here — from No Name:

Delamar: Oh ho, Diana!
Chico: What's the Ateneo's full full name?
Diana: Ateneo de Manila University
Chico: There. Their saying "Why do you put 'The' when there's no 'The' anywhere in the official name?"
Diana: You can put 'The' in La Salle. "The De La Salle University" but it sounds weird.
Chico: Of course, we'll never hear the end of this.
Delamar: I know.
Chico: So you put 'The' just because you want to.
Diana: It sounds more professional.
Chico: Okay.
Delamar: And do you need to make it — to sound more professional?
Diana: I want it to!
Chico: Plus it's not a personal choice. It's not like Diana's the only one who calls it that.
Delamar: It's the whole school, but when do they tell you it's called THE Ateneo?
Diana: When you get in?
Delamar: Yeah okay.
Chico: I don't know when it started, 'cause — seriously — during our time, it wasn't. (It wasn't.) People just called it Ateneo.
Delamar: Where are you from? Ateneo.
Chico: Yeah. Even people from Ateneo will call it "Ateneo". I don't know when it started.
Delamar: I went out with an Atenean once and that's how he said it. Where are you from? Ateneo.
Chico: So it must have been between when we were — at the time when we were in college — and now — somewhere there — they added the 'The'.
Delamar: Okay.
Chico: Number 7 from Raymond:

Chico and Delamar: Philippine Science High School.
Chico: ...which for Raymond is the (benchmark). If there are more Ateneo Grade School students there in...
Delamar: ...in the premier high school
Chico: ...who make it there
Delamar: ...which is the Philippine Science High School, so Ateneo's better.
Chico: Ateneo's better... or smarter.
Delamar: According to Raymond.
Chico: But then, it's not because Ateneo and La Salle. It becomes about Pisay! And the entry that caps off the bottom half of the Top 10 Reasons Why Ateneo or La Salle is Better comes from Reddy.
Delamar: Reddy says:

Delamar: Aha!
Chico: You can tell how mature the arguments have become.
Delamar: Yes yes! Go ahead and let out your immaturity. It needs full expression.
Chico: I will try to include as many different types: really mature arguments and really immature arguments, but it's all about the two schools. Tell us why. The reasons why Ateneo or La Salle is better.
Chico: Monster Radio RX 93.1... Goodness gracious!
Delamar: Are you flooded?
Chico: I don't know how we are going to do this, because there are so many entries, but we love it this way!
Delamar: We love it this way. We love to panic in the morning.
Chico: And we really, you know, we "kantied" something today this morning.
Delamar: "Kantied"?
Chico: "Kantied."
Delamar: Nakanti. Tagalog.
Chico: Because we are going to the very root of the rivalry of La Salle vs Ateneo.
Delamar: I don't think this is the root.
Chico: What?
Delamar: Is there really?
Diana: Yes, there is.
Delamar: A root?
Diana: Uh-hmm.
Delamar: A root? Really? What is the root?
Chico: No, that's what we're trying to figure out.
Delamar: She knows apparently.
Diana: It's in Wikipedia.
Chico: Really? What?
Delamar: Oh so there is a... go!
Diana: When Ateneo first won the game, La Salle went to the gates of Ateneo and threw food — I'm not sure — at the gates of Ateneo.
Chico: Food?
Diana: ...and then, that's where the rivalry started.
Delamar: Are you serious?
Chico: That's according to Wikipedia, 'cause remember Wikipedia, anyone can put information in. So that's why they were saying don't treat Wikipedia like the...
Delamar: ...as a gospel truth
Chico: ...dictionary or a directory, I mean an encyclopedia. Like a directory. "Hello?"
Delamar: Hello?
Chico: Hello, Wikipedia? Anong number ng... But no, there.
Delamar: It won't answer.
Chico: The rivalry goes way way back. We don't really know how it started, but it's here so let's enjoy it.
Delamar: Let's enjoy it, especially the ones not from Ateneo or La Salle.
Chico: I think so. But before that, Baluga Ka would like to greet his wife Tess and daughter Mara. They're listening right now. And also, hi to Paul Regalario of BPI Makati Head Office. Happy birthday!
Delamar: Happy birthday!
Chico: And cheers to all Xavier School students. A happy A-Day... oh, Appreciation Day also known as Teachers Day. And also, Martin would like to greet his wife Blair a happy 30th birthday. Well, she got one of her gifts yesterday. Ateneo won. Well, "I just like to say that Ateneo is better, because that's where I found the woman I love." Apparently, the wife is Atenean. The Top 10 Reasons Why Ateneo or La Salle is Better. Let's do it. Remember, don't argue, because these are just entries from obviously people from Ateneo or La Salle.
Delamar: It doesn't mean it's the truth.
Chico: It doesn't mean it's the truth. Number 5 from Choochie Kua:

Chico: Every other aspect. Number 4 from No Name and Cresha:

Delamar: Our national hero.
Chico: Yeah, but then Jethro says, "La Salle is better kasi si Erap Atenean."
Delamar: Read between the lines. We're not gonna say anything.
Chico: We're not gonna say anything. Remember, their arguments are both, like, alumni of the school.
Delamar: Jose Rizal is Atenean.
Chico: The other one is — On the other side is also saying, well, Erap is Atenean. Number 3 from Noel:

Diana: We have aircon, too!
Chico: Oh no! FYI!
Delamar: FYI, they also have airconditioning in Ateneo.
Chico: Number 2 coming from Paolo. This one is serious, okay.

Delamar: Oh no! Is that right?
Chico: Well, I don't know though. I wasn't there. And also from Jai, okay, same thing. Jai sent us the same thing.
Delamar (laughing): Sorry.
Chico: What?
Delamar: Somebody just won't quit. Somebody from La Salle said... Jose Rizal is from Ateneo and this girl from La Salle goes, "Kaya nga siya binaril e!"
Chico: Not because of his revolutionary ways. No.
Delamar: Chantal, you know that's you. I got your message.
Chico: And from Jai, same thing. "Ateneo is better, because we attend the awarding ceremony and accept the loss even when we don't win." And the number... and the top reason why Ateneo or La Salle is better comes from Astroboy.
Delamar: Astroboy says:

Delamar: Okay. I can accept that. Can you, Chico?
Chico: And that's the only reason why Ateneo is better.
Delamar: It's closer to us, to UP.
Chico: It rubs... a little bit rubs off.
Delamar: Can I say something really bad?
Chico: What?
Delamar: The closer you get to UP, the smarter you get.(Hilarious laughing)
Delamar: Never mind. This is going to be bad.
Chico: This is going to be wild. That's why so many entries are flooding in, because they all want their say on this matter. So we'll see, okay? The Top 10 Reasons Why Ateneo or La Salle is Better. And don't feel bad if the number 1 is pro-Ateneo or pro-La Salle. We're choosing... we're basing it on how witty, (how naughty,) how witty, how well done... so nobody...
Delamar: Don't take it against the Morning Rush.
Chico: No pikon allowed. The Top 10 Reasons Why Ateneo or La Salle is Better.
Chico: Monster Radio RX 93.1... and you know we brought up a storm outside of Ofel and there is a storm now when it comes to the Top 10.
Delamar: I know! We are being flooded.
Chico: Yes. Flooded. Before we do that, hi to — Jai would like to greet Steph, Raymond, and the rest of the UP students aking Chem 16 under Sir Joel. You guys rock. Keisha would like to say... no no no. To Keisha Pedro, take care and have fun today. Avoid demerits, okay. Mommy loves you everyday. And Melai... happy 23rd birthday to Melai. That's coming from Tootsie. Dark Vader was saying, "Waaaah! Kawawa naman ang UST. Unang naging amin si Jose Rizal."
Delamar (laughing)
Chico: And so many people, so many people were saying — remember we said that Ateneo's better because it's so near UP Diliman?
Delamar: Yes?
Chico: Well, they're saying, "If that's the case, we are so much nearer UP Manila." La Salle Taft is closer to UP Manila. So they were saying, "so we're much smarter." So it's really UP! Whoever's closer to UP...
Delamar: ...and they're agreeing to it, too!
Chico: They're agreeing to it.
Delamar: Both La Salle and Ateneo.
Chico: That's the funny part!
Delamar: Well, all I'm saying is in UP Manila are the hard sciences. The PTs, the nursing, the Intarmed, the medicine. Everything is there.
Chico: And speaking of Jose Rizal, Marco was saying, "Kaya nag-aral si Jose Rizal sa Ateneo kasi wala pang La Salle..."
(Pregnant laughter)
Chico: "...pero kung meron nang La Salle, doon siya mag-aaral." And then Feather Whorecaster would like to greet his cousin "Happy birthday!"
Delamar: Happy birthday!
Chico: Network Hydraulics was saying given the entries of the Top 10, "Guys, parang inulit niyo lang ang Top 10 topic last week: Top 10 Lies You've Ever Told."
Delamar: Oh ho!
Chico: And hi to Jake of Civilized. "I love you, honey." That's coming from Cherry. And also somebody was saying "Hello to the SAS Rushers. And I don't know why ADMU and DLSU are fighting so hard just for second place."
Delamar: Yabang!
Chico: Yabang! Obviously, he's from UP. And good morning to my Archer. That's coming from his Maroon.
Delamar: Aaawwwwww...
Chico: Okay, and Greg would like to greet his kids Harvey, Wednesday, and Orange; and also hi to Rain and Ate Angel — that's coming from — they're actually in Qatar. They're listening. Five hours delayed, but they're listening via...
Delamar: www.rx931.com?
Chico: Actually, Blue Ritz's. They download it, so we're greeting them so that by the time that they download it, they would be able to hear it.
Delamar: They would be able to hear the greeting!
Chico: So hi to Rain and Ate Angel. And hi to Ate Bekai who's celebrating her birthday today...
Delamar: Happy birthday.
Chico: ...from Jazz and Jirè. And finally to all the Mapuans, hello there, and to Gellingzan, Jerome, Lengleng, and Yazan. The Top 10 Reasons Why Ateneo or La Salle is Better. Let's start off with number 10 from Espex:

Chico: Also from Espex: "La Salle is better kasi Ateneo produces more politicians."
Delamar: Hrmm...
Chico: And that makes them not better. There.
Delamar: Diana can't say anything.
Chico: Number 9 from Shinta:

Chico: So they should be Ateneo de Quezon City.
Delamar: And also there's an Ateneo in Makati. The Law School is in Rockwell.
Chico: They should be called Ateneo...
Delamar: Ateneo de Makati!
Chico: ...de Rockwell!
Delamar: ...de Rockwell! (laughs)
Chico: Ateneo de Rockwell as opposed to Ateneo de Quezon City. Number 8 from No Name:

Delamar: Bar exams! Which is, I think the final Sunday is this coming one. For the Bar examinations which is held in DLSU.
Chico: Now, Penelope raises the flag for La Salle and says, uh, if Ateneo has a law school, then Penelope says, "La Salle has an established med school," which Ateneo doesn't.
Delamar: Yeah, that's true. You don't have a med school.
Diana: We have! ASMPH. It's a newly opened school. It opened this year.
Delamar: So it's not yet proven.
Chico: It's not an established...
Delamar: ...tried and proven. Unlike, you know, UP.
Chico: We just keep going back.
Delamar: I know! I'm sorry!
Chico: Because this is between Ateneo and La Salle!
Delamar: Del, you know. Get out of the way.
Chico: Then number 7 from Liz:

Delamar: Well, you could judge it that way.
Chico: Yeah, remember we said better in any aspect. Okay?
Delamar: Well, okay. Just to be clear about it: Of course, this is not true.
Chico: Yes. Most of these are, like, opinion-based.
Delamar: Yes. And in the great scheme of things, you know, you are first and foremost a human being.
Chico: And you have to consider... If you could just imagine how many entries we have where they're using the same argument but for their own school: "Because, you know, we're smarter. We're richer." I mean, both schools are saying the same things.
Delamar: Well, I'll probably say they're both rich, but... smart?
Chico: Here we go again! Ateneo vs La Salle.
Delamar: I'm sorry! I'm sorry. I love a good fight.
Chico: And the entry that caps off the bottom half of the Top 10 Reasons Why Ateneo or La Salle is Better comes from Blair and Johnny Jr.
Delamar: Blair and Johnny Jr both say:

Delamar: This does not help the myth that La Salle is not as smart as Ateneo. This does not help.
Chico: Apparently, they held up the cards that said "AL SALLE". The L and the A, they switched it.
Delamar: They'll never live it down
Chico: They'll never live that one down.
Delamar: Because they already suffer from, you know, the perception that they aren't ... which is not true.
Chico: Yeah. I mean that's just the... You know how...
Delamar: It's just that UP has more con- (laughs)
(Hilarious laughter)
Delamar: I'm sorry. It just keeps coming back.
Chico: And this is just so funny because our college alumni homecoming is coming up.
Delamar: Of course, we're just kidding. Again, we're, you know, we're just having fun. You're first and foremost a human being. Your diploma may matter in the workplace, but as a human being, you know, you could be from any school and be the worst specimen of a human being. So we just need to clarify that so nobody feels bad. We're just having fun.
Chico: So the Top 10 Reasons Why Ateneo or La Salle is Better in whatever aspect.
Chico: Monster Radio RX 93.1... Time for the Top 10 for today. Good morning to Paul Lovell who is listening. So excited about his coming seventh birthday party on October 5. That's coming from you loving mom Lilian. Triple A says, "Nakakainis kayo. Palagi na lang napapa-burp ang pwet ko sa inyo sa kakatawa."
Delamar: Ewwwwww. That's not called a burp!
Chico: That's not called a burp. And hi to Pam, Chantoi, Loren. Viva La Morning Rushers. Aja aja. And a lot of people were sending in why sometimes it's with a D, sometimes with an R like in Baboy Damo-Baboy Ramo. Some provinces like Rizal pronounce the D as R like sometimes they say instead of dagat they say ragat. And Raymond was saying in phonetics, D can be replaced by its allophone R in Tagalog when it is preceded by a vowel or semi-vowel.
Delamar: Like in, uh, ...
Chico: Like doon-roon. Dito-rito.
Delamar: Doon-roon. Uh, yeah. What else?
Chico: So there. Sometimes they really do that. JS was saying Techie Agbayani was my classmate at the Ateneo grad school. She's presently finishing her MA in counseling.
Delamar: Yeah, that's what they were saying. She's taking up her MA.
Chico: And Purple Rose was saying, "Guys, you have chosen the Top 10 from hell. There's already a commotion in the Morning Rush forum." A-Lec would like to congratulate Alex Ascano of "our sister agency PHT. He is Star World's Agency Idol for 2008." Rodel says, "Haay. Ang boring ng Top 10. AMA vs STI naman." And then hi to Mimi. Happy birthday from your admin family. To boyfriend Steven Pingping, "He's flying to Australia tonight for a month's vacation. Have fun. Please miss me." And Jefferson says, "I feel so out of place. You keep talking about which school is better: Ateneo or La Salle. OP naman ako kasi I'm from Stanford."
Delamar: What-EVER! Is that real?
Chico: It's real. It's real. He's said this before.
Delamar: Well, who said... Do we have anybody from Brown? University? From Yale? From Harvard?
Chico: And Tiny says "Happy birthday, Rigel." And somebody — No Name — says, "Nanalo lang ang Ateneo kasi na-in love 'yung referee kay Chris Tiu."
Delamar: Oh... (laughs)
Chico: And Kabodksi says, "Ateneo and La Salle are equally good. They provide the best education — for those who don't make it to UP."
Chico and Delamar: xOh!
Chico: The Top 10 Reasons Why Ateneo or La Salle is Better. Let's start off with Number 5 coming from, okay from, No Name:

Delamar: Oh my God!
Chico: And he's die-hard La Salle.
Delamar: Uh-oh. Why is that?
Chico: I don't know. I don't know. If you're die-hard something, why would you send...
Delamar: Why would you send your child to the rival school?
Chico: Exactly.
Delamar: That says something.
Chico: Number 4 coming from Daddy's... uh, let's do that later. Number 4 coming from IT Guy:

Chico: Like D'Superstar. D'La Salle. And the entry sender says, "'Yan ang sabi ng asawa kong Atenista. By the way, I'm fron La Salle."
Delamar: That's like a Romeo and Juliet kind of thing.
Chico: Exactly. Then Number 3 coming from Monica:

Delamar: You party with the Lasallites, but you marry an Atenean. Aaah! Interesting.
Chico: Yeah. And uh, yeah... But tell that to the La Salle wives, because they married Lasallites. Number 2 coming from Daddy's Boy. Daddy's Boy says:

Delamar: Oh no!
(Hilarious laughter — probably not even realizing that "Daddy's Boy" isn't so much boy...)
Delamar: The implications here!
Chico: The implications!
Delamar: You know La Salle and Ateneo are like bikinis. There's a top and there's a bottom.
Chico: There's a top, there's a bottom. And the top, speaking of, reason why Ateneo or La Salle is better comes from two people both rooting for different schools, but their attack is very similar. First from AJ.

Delamar: Rubbing it in today.
Chico: Uh-huh! And from Trace:

Everyone: Oh!
Delamar: Yeah. That's an underhanded compliment.
Chico: They're actually saying the other school is better, but then they, you know, they make a little twist there.
Delamar: There's a twist.
Chico: So that's what we're doing today. The Top 10 Reasons Why Ateneo or La Salle is Better.
Chico: Monster Radio RX 93.1... Okay, here we go. Let's get this out of the way.
Delamar: Greetings, you mean?
Chico: Greetings. Hi to Pam. She missed my greeting earlier, 'cause she was buying her favorite Moroccan mint coffee. Hi to Pam and Chris of SAX from Che-ann. Hi to Newpy who's on his way to Tagaytay for a boys's night out. "Hon, please be a good boy. Behave." And from Putongtong's mom. I'm in a salon right now using my cell phone just to listen to you guys. My husband even called me to listen as well. Our son Putongtong even said before he went down from the car if I could record the entries. Our son is from Ateneo in Grade 5.
Delamar: Ateneo, yeah.
Chico: He doesn't want to miss any of it. He sent five entries already. I'm laughing here all by myself, the customers looking at me weird. It's so nice to start our day with you guys. Agent 2B says, "Guys, even UP misspelled it during one cheering competition."
Delamar: How can we misspell it? UP?
Chico: No no. Not UP, but it was supposed to be "Tribo Sugod". It became "Sribo Tugod".
Delamar: That is embarrassing. I know, just because it's not because you're S-T-U-P-I-D.
Chico: No, it's just forgetting your place.
Delamar: But you won't be able to live it down if it's in the UAAP, because everybody's just waiting for somebody to bungle up. (...to make a mistake)
Chico: And Maroon would like to greet the Archer again. He wasn't listening daw to you. So I guess Ateneo really is better.
Delamar: Oh no!
Chico: Oh no! And then Jopak says, "Pagpasensiyahan niyo na 'yung mga entry nh mga taga-Mapua kasi ganyan talaga kami. We're great at computing, but we're not great at following instructions." And then Marco said...
Delamar: Funny they should say that, because that was what was said to me before I took the UPCAT. Being in UP means you're able to understand and follow instructions. Nothing is clearer than when you take the exam.
Chico: Because it's very specific.
Delamar: Very specific.
Chico: And Marco was saying, uh, "Naiinggit lang ang mga taga-Ateneo kasi De La Salle. Kaya ginawa nilang De Ateneo." And then Crazy Red said, "Kung academically better ang... If the Ateneo entrance exam is difficult, how come my brother passed Ateneo but failed the La Salle entrance exam?" Because that's how it is! There's no such thing as, you know, as one exam... because you'll find people who passed one and failed the other.
Delamar: Because your expertise also change?
Chico: It differs. There's really no way to measure which one is harder, because what is harder for one will be easier for another and there's no point in...
Delamar: So this is subjective?
Chico: This is definitely subjective. Main Man, "Please, guys. A message for all Bar examinees, bring extra socks and extra shoes this Sunday. There's been heavy flooding in Taft as of last night."
Delamar: Okay. Final Sunday of the Bar examinations in 2008. Break a leg to all the Bar examinees.
Chico: I know. And a happy birthday to Karen of IPS from Jeb and your lunch buddies. And Mayi was saying in my office, I'm the only Lasallian against three Ateneans and our drinking buddies three floors down have three La Salle vs one Ateneo ratio.
Delamar: Oh no.
Chico: And finally, "Please say this message on air. My husband is rooting for San Beda's championship tonight, and I've done and said things that pissed him off, so please tell him 'I'm sorry' and 'I love you more than anything'." I swear these basketball games are getting to people.
Delamar: I know! This is our version of, like, football in Europe. They get heated! One final one, maybe say hello to Eric and get well soon.
Chico: Get well soon!
Delamar: He just had his molar removed. Get well soon.
Chico: Ouch. So the Top 10 Reasons Why Ateneo or La Salle is Better. Let's do number 10 from Putongtong's dad.

Delamar: But not saying anything about it.
Chico: Not saying anything about it. Number 9 from No Name:

Delamar: That's what they said.
Chico: That's what they said, but that's actually a fact, because well, you want a rivalry. It's, like, remember when in the Olympics when the US boycotted and Russia boycotted at the time that it was US vs Russia or USSR. When one is missing, it's just not the same. And if you win, the other one who's not there will say that's why you won.
Delamar: So is it safe to say that Michael Jordan was to the NBA as La Salle is to the UAAP?
Chico: Well, something like that.
Delamar: Something like that?
Chico: I think, either school, I think. When either school is not there...
Delamar: But, I think La Salle. I think La Salle. I'm sorry, Diana. No, but I really think so. I really think that La Salle has more credits when it comes to their basketball team. They're the team to beat.
Chico: They're the team that you wanna beat so, you know, you have bragging rights.
Delamar: And they must be in the Finals.
Chico: Yeah. Yeah. And number 8 from Sugar:

Chico: Because of Chris Tiu. Number 7 from No Name:

Delamar: I knew where that was going. I just knew it.
Chico: And the entry that caps off the bottom half of the Top 10 Reasons why Ateneo or La Salle is Better comes from Astroboy.
Delamar: Astroboy says:

Delamar: According to her.
Chico: So it's like, if you're not Ateneo then you can't sit in that area, but if you sit in a La Salle area and you're not from La Salle, (you're fine). Supposedly, you're fine.
Delamar: As far as her experiences are concerned.
Chico: As far as her expriences.
Delamar: I mean, even in our own group of friends. The UP people outnumber the ones from La Salle and we really make them feel it.
Chico: Yeah. There's always the war with schools.
Delamar: There are only two La Salle in our group, and I would say...
Chico: We don't have Ateneans.
Delamar: No, we don't. We try not to include them.
Diana: Whaaat? Why?
Delamar: Just kidding.
Chico: Whether grade school or high school. None right?
Delamar: Yeah... none.
Chico: I have two nephews though. Two nephews and one niece from Ateneo. And then I have one... two... two from La Salle.
Delamar: My brother took his freshman year in Ateneo Law and then quit altogether, let go of the one year he took all those units, and came back to UP.
Chico: Yeah. So this is going to be heated. Endless. The Top 10 Reasons Why Ateneo or La Salle is Better. Let's do it.
Delamar: Uh-hmmm.
Chico: Monster Radio RX 93.1... And okay.
Delamar: Okay what?
Chico (sighs with exasperation): We've got our Top 10 for the day. Before that, can we say — You know somebody texted in earlier that, you know, echoing the sentiment where Ateneo and La salle are just fighting for second place, because UP blah blah blah. And then somebody, that same person said, "Buti na lang ako taga-PUP. Para na ring UP."
Delamar: Para na ring UP.
Chico: Yeah, para na ring UP.
Delamar: Well, both are government schools — public schools.
Chico: Mayi was saying, "You know what? Both schools contribute to the greater economy. It's not just ticket sales in Araneta. Check your text message revenue for this morning. It's a great rivalry. People must have texted trillions of messages."
Delamar: Yeah. Even merchandising.
Chico: Yeah, merchandising. And Gung Ho was saying, "Been at Aguinaldo Highway in Bacoor for over an hour already. Thanks for making it bearable. About your Top 10, me, I consider myself from Ateneo de La Salle University of the Philippines."
Delamar: Witty...
Chico: Witty. And Lilian would like to say "good morning" to her dearest husband Leo. And finally somebody, No Name, said, "Okay lang ang La Salle 'pag na-interchange ang first two letters. Eh kung Ateneo ang mag-interchange ng first two letters?" Try it.
Delamar: Oh! Ooooh!
Chico: Okay.
Delamar: Bad. Bad.
Chico: Here we go. The Top 10 Reasons Why Ateneo or La Salle is Better. Okay?
Delamar: Of course, we're coming off the championships yesterday - last night. Ateneo emerging victorious over La Salle, for this year at least. The fourth time to meet each other in the Finals.
Chico: And Jai was saying, "Even though I'm in classes, I cannot take off my earphones because I'm just enjoying the Top 10 so much."
Delamar: Everybody loves a good fight. They really do.
Chico: I know. The Top 10 Reasons Why Ateneo or La Salle is Better.
Delamar: That's why we're egging them... Go go go go.
Chico: Actually, somebody earlier said, "Guys, why can't you, like, whoever's top the top..." like they're saying if Ateneo made it to number 1, then they're saying you should include a La Salle entry — or the other way around. We're just basing it on how it was written, not necessarily the school.
Delamar: No no no no.
Chico: Anyway, number 5 from Pretty Cake.

Chico: So no matter how small the space is? 'Cause in Ateneo, there's so much parking! And it's true. In Taft, it's so hard to find parking space.
Delamar: Don't they have valet?
Chico: No, 'cause remember...
Delamar: No. In CSB. Some of the biggest... and they have all those cars, those expensive cars. They are being driven and they give the keys to those manongs on the side and they trust them with the cars that are quite expensive.
Chico: Because Taft... it's really hard to find parking. It's so hard.
Delamar: Yes, very difficult.
Chico: Just like UST. Remember, we had so much... such a difficult time to find parking space.
Delamar: Especially if there are events. Obviously.
Chico: Number 4 from PJCPS

Delamar: Is that right?
Diana: I'm not sure...
Chico: I don't know, but that's what — that's according to this. I don't know. I don't know for a fact.
Delamar: Okay.
Chico: Number 3 from Bilog.

Delamar: But of course, it's biodegradable AND for the environment, green is better.
Chico: Yes.
Delamar: Remember that. BUT we are the blue planet.
Chico: Yeah.
Delamar: Yeah.
Chico: You need to stay green for our blue planet.
Delamar: For it to stay blue. So we must co-exist.
Chico: We must find a way. Number 2 from Mylene:

Delamar and Diana: Ohhhhh!
Delamar: But then again, you really should give it to Ateneo this year, because they did win so they have, like, a whole year to brag about it.
Chico: And remember, each school...
Diana: We only lost one game. The entire season, we only lost one game.
Delamar: Yabang.
Diana: And we lost it on the day of Saint — on St Ignatius Day.
Delamar: What does that mean?
Diana: St Ignatius is our patron saint.
Chico: And you lost on that day?
Diana: We lost on that day... and that's the only day we lost the entire season.
Chico: St Ignatius is not pro-Ateneo.
Diana: He's pro-La Salle.
Chico: But you know, that's just the thing. Each year, whoever wins... you know there's a year that La Salle wins or the Ateneo wins, a year that FEU wins... so it's like you give it to them, to the school that wins.
Delamar: Yes. For a whole year, you wear the crown.
Chico: You gloat for one year and the next year it's another battle altogether.
Delamar: It's up for grabs again.
Chico: And that's number 2. And the top reason why Ateneo or La Salle is better comes from Mags.
Delamar: Mags says:

Delamar: Because they don't really care. Victory is sweeter if you beat La Salle.
Chico: But you know if you think about it, that's also a pat on the back for both schools, because La Salle would rather beat Ateneo more than any school and Ateneo would rather beat La Salle than any school.
Delamar: Whatever gets said, they do deem each other as worthy rivals.
Chico: Yes. Remember, when somebody wants to beat you, it means you're the one they see as the biggest opponent. So in a way, both schools are actually giving each other a big pat on the back by saying that "You are our greatest rival."
Delamar: That's why I really wanna beat your blog... 'cause I deem you as the enemy.
Chico: So that's what great rivalries are for. You have Ateneo-La Salle. You have Nora-Vilma. You have... who else? We ran out of big rivalries.
Delamar: But like Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie. You know we were watching Eagle Eye, because that was the Monster Movie Premiere last night. Billy Bob Thorton, ex-Mister Angelina Jolie... I started thinking. Why did Jennifer Aniston... Why is Jennifer Aniston getting all the flack for being left behind by Brad Pitt but nobody's centering on Billy Bob Thorton?
Chico: Yeah?!
Delamar: ...being left behind by Angelina Jolie for Brad Pitt? It's as if if you're male, it's okay. If you're a female and a beautiful one at that, to be rejected, yes, you're kawawa. What is that about? Anyway, it has nothing to do with the Top 10.
Chico: Yeah, but it's true. A lot of the best, you know — even when it comes to products, but let's not mention it. But usually when it comes to, like, cellphones, and then you have, like, softdrinks, fastfoods; it really hinges on great rivalries, because it brings out the best in both brands and that's where it is. Congratulations to both teams. Remember, these are the two teams that made it to the Finals (for this year). So there! So we'll leave it at that, because we're all by it. We don't want to get in trouble with either school. So, again congratulations to Ateneo — THE Ateneo —
Delamar: Are we done?
Chico: That was number 1.
Delamar: Oh, that was number 1.
Chico: So congratulations for winning and, uh, see you next year, whoever's going to be champion next year.
Delamar: But don't worry about that. For now, Ateneo, you know, can brag about this.
Chico: Okay, fine. Congratulations to the Ateneo.
Diana: He doesn't wanna say it...
Chico: And I will say it 'THE Ateneo', the way you want it said, for winning the championship. We had our time to gloat.
Delamar: And everybody will just has to wait their turn to be champions.
Chico: I know.
Delamar: You know, we must wait and, well, UP will have to wait longer. We're just not good at it.
Chico: Can you imagine the day we will actually be champions? That would be wonderful.
Delamar: It's never gonna happen.
Chico: Stop it. Stop it!
Delamar: Never gonna happen. You know why? Because UP students are busy with other stuff. Other important stuff.
Diana: Whatever!
Chico: Yeah, we're just not good at basketball.
Delamar: We're just not good. We're just not good, but we'd like to think we're not good because we are smart.
Chico: Yeah.
Delamar: Not true, though.
Chico: Thank you guys! We had fun. Thank you for joining us.
Delamar: Thank you very much for joining. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Of course, Diana of Ateneo — THE Ateneo — coming to work perfect, perfectly on a Friday after you guys have just won so she like had a field day today. Thank you for joining us and training here on the Morning Rush. Remember, Radio 1 is available for students.
Chico: I know. If you wanna be a DJ, you can get some training from the RX jocks. All you gotta do is come over to the station (with your résumé)...
Delamar: ...and leave a voice file and we'll get back to you.
Chico: Yes, please!
Delamar: Thank you very much. Have a great week... end.
Chico: Good morning! And in case it's rainy, please be careful on the road.
Delamar: Alright.
Chico: See you tomorrow!
Delamar: See you tomorrow!
I beg to differ, the UAAP has a Juniors' Division as well.
TumugonBurahinoh my, so true, but the nora-vilma comparison just made me laugh out loud =))
TumugonBurahinFunny. :))
TumugonBurahinWilJ should have joined this conversation/whole thing. I'd like to hear his insights if ever.
I think Al Salle sounds worse than Taeneo. Just putting it out there! *hint hint*
TumugonBurahinAgain, I just transcribed. Dami pa nga errors e. :D
TumugonBurahinYeah. Particularly since we know it's Sharon who owns this category. NAAAT! LOL.
TumugonBurahinWilJ's actually on the audio clip for his plug as a newbie. "Where there's a will, there's a J." However, do recall he represents UP as a Radio 1 jock.
TumugonBurahinI thought it was DAMU at first. When I was transcribing, that was the only time I thought about Taeneo.
TumugonBurahinThat's what I thought at first. Then I thought about Taeneo (initially, I pronounced it as Tah-eh-neh-oh) and realized that the person was trying to say "tae nyo". Pretty smart, but poop is nothing compared to, well, Al Salle. -__-
TumugonBurahini'm so happy to be from UP--we need not argue about being "better", 'coz we're simply the "best". ;-p
TumugonBurahinyabang noh?! haha, peace! :-)
i enjoyed reading this. thanks for posting, edge! :-)
I came from UP anyway... :D
TumugonBurahinIf you check the annual rating of the best Universities in Asia (by TIME Magazine), way back in 1997 (I was 2nd year then in UP - Geodetic Engineering), UP ranked 25, Ateneo ranked 44, La Salle was 47 (I think), UST was about 60+
TumugonBurahin5 years after, UP went down to 46 and the other universities were like 70+
I am not sure about the exact ratings lately but for sure UP will rise again above other universities. The rating was based on several criteria like the education program, facilities, research, ratio of student to teacher/professor, quality of students being accommodated and the level of difficulty of entrance exams. You name it.....
FYI: In this survey, universities from Japan, Taiwan, China and Singapore normally top the ratings.
I came from UP, too, by the way.
TumugonBurahinMe three. But when it comes to Basketball, I think U.P. has a Final Four shot in the near future. :))
TumugonBurahinyou have too much time in your hands. no wonder you're all droopy and weak when dota time comes along...
TumugonBurahinYep. Nagulat nga ako when I first heard. Di ko pa siya naaabutan sa Radio 1. Wala pa ata siya when this Daily Top 10 was made.
TumugonBurahininstead of thinking which school is better, why not think of how to end the feud? :)) but then, who wants it to end? it gives laughs and something to cheer about. hahaha.
TumugonBurahinwhy ateneo or la salle is better... because ateneo is better. that's it. :> hahaha. :))
TumugonBurahinWell, for one, the rivalry SHOULD be able to bring out a healthy competition driving both parties to excellence. The problem is it also brings out the worst in some — those who are only nominally Ateneans or Lasallians, but do not live the values of Ateneo or La Salle.
TumugonBurahinWhat's dota time? LOL. I made this on a Sunday... no DotA that night. Our DotA nights are after a work day and after I travel 2.5 hours to get to Odds.
TumugonBurahin...just wait for my evaluation.
TumugonBurahinI was not at all surprised. I hear on RX his contributions to the discussions (even once confirming on Y!M if that were him).
TumugonBurahini was about to post that hahaha
TumugonBurahinbut i still honestly think i cold be taking a better [fine arts] education in la salle(beniled) or up...
i can't study in la salle because it's expensive and i'm not allowed to study in up because lola thinks i'll be a commuist (shhhh walang lalabas dito :P).
U.P. needs Gamobang! :(
TumugonBurahinpumupunta naman ako for anime and film convetions eh :D
TumugonBurahinand isaw and fishballs and 3php siomai!
EHH! U.P. needs Gamobang! Huhuhu! Miss ka na ng U.P. E-boys! :(
TumugonBurahinmiss ko na rin kayo! hahaha
TumugonBurahinalso check the vargas museum. minsan bumibiita ako roon XD
Yown. Mag-text ka ah! ~ :D
TumugonBurahinI don't see why there's even a need to debate an indisputable fact.
TumugonBurahinWell, a school can't be best in everything. UP won't turn you into a communist... depende na 'yun sa iyo e. Do you have rebellious tendencies? Look at how I turned out. Oh wait. Scratch that... :D
TumugonBurahinFirst off, there's no debate. Second, it's not indisputable. Third, RA?
TumugonBurahinMiss ko na rin kayo... Hahaha!
TumugonBurahinI already replied this. >:P Haha.
TumugonBurahinWell then you should know what's in there. :>
TumugonBurahin
